Overcoming Motherhood Burnout: Building a Supportive Community

Fulfilled. Empowered. Exhausted. Loved. Overstimulated. Doubtful. Do any of these words sound familiar to you?

Meet Lauren. Mama to four year old Lucas and 8 week old Ellery. Most days you’ll find Lauren in yesterday's outfit, covered in spit up and hair falling out of her claw clip. Lucas is parented by his iPad most of the day, as Lauren is attending to the constant demands of little Ellery. There are toys everywhere, piles of laundry, and dishes in the sink. Lauren feels the pressure of what a good wife and mom “should” do. Does she clean up the house and make dinner for her husband? What about give Lucas some one on one time? He’s struggling with sharing his mama after being an only child for four years. Maybe she should take a shower and put on clean clothes. And this is only if Ellery sleeps for a solid 20 minutes in the swing. Either option, she’s letting someone down. This is a new concept for Lauren. She’s used to being the corporate right hand girl. You ask, Lauren delivers. She’s smart, educated, direct, and follows through. Lauren never planned on being a stay at home mom. She loves her job. But adding a second baby to the family makes her question if home is where she should be. With only four weeks left of her maternity leave, its a big decision to make. Does she leave her whole sense of identity in the job she loves, for her new sense of identity as a mom of two?

Hey there mama, can you relate to Lauren? Maybe you’re a veteran mama and this phase is a distant memory for you. Or perhaps you’re a new mama in the trenches and feel like you just read about yourself! Lauren is one of so many mamas navigating through this messy and beautiful life of motherhood. Trying not to lose herself as she finds herself in the trenches of motherhood. There’s a saying, “it takes a village”. If you’re a mama you know that to be true. Perhaps you have a village, or maybe you’re a new mama and you don’t know where to find your village. Veteran or new, Mama Matters is here to be your village in all stages of motherhood. We have plans to discuss so many topics. Simple topics such as easy snack ideas and playtime activities, to more in depth topics such as infant loss, infertility, child illnesses and more. Wherever you are in your mama journey, we hope you find love and community with Mama Matters.
